VIT University (formerly Vellore Institute of Technology) is a private co-educational university located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. The university was founded in 1984 by G. Viswanathan, who is now its chancellor.
Past of the University
The institution was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by G. Viswanathan. It was affiliated to the University of Madras until 2000. In 2001, the institute was awarded the deemed university status by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India and hence the name was changed to Vellore Institute of Technology. In September 2006, it was renamed as VIT University in accordance with new decree issued by the University Grants Commission enabling deemed universities to change their name to “university”.
Ranking
VIT University has been conferred with an “A” grade by NAAC.[1]. Some of its technical courses have been accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK.[2]
In an India Today survey it was ranked the 10th best engineering college in India.

How to get admission
VIT University conducts an entrance exam (VITEEE – VIT Engineering Entrance Exam) every year to select students for B.Tech. programs. The entrance exam can be taken with an option of PCB for entry into B.Tech. Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Bio-medical Engineering programs, or with an option of PCM for all the 12 B.Tech. programs.
More than one lakh (100,000) students appear for the entrance exam, which is conducted in about 70 cities in all the states of India.
